Artist Bio: Savannah Dodd

Savannah Dodd is a photographer and anthropologist. Originally from St. Louis, USA, she has made several transcontinental moves, and currently calls Belfast home. She received her M.A. in anthropology and sociology from the Graduate Institute of International Development Studies in Geneva.

Her grandmother, portrait artist Sallie Day Mogerman, gave her an art-filled childhood, from pastels to the potter's wheel.  With her unwavering encouragement, Savannah won her first photography contest at age eleven.

Savannah's photography is heavily influenced by her academic background in anthropology, and so her images centre on people, material culture, and the minutiae of everyday life. Her anthropological research explores the nexus between religion, politics, and conflict. She often combines the disciplines to produce visual ethnography.
