A few years ago, Yangon introduced pedestrian overpasses to the downtown quarter. The idea was to provide a hazard-free route to cross the street, instead of dodging cars across four lanes of unpredictable traffic. Although most people still take their chances down below, the overpasses have taken on an unpredicted function. Overpasses have become havens where people find respite from the frenetic streets. Here, above Yangon, you can sit quietly while you watch the world pass underneath.
